Settlers Run Golf & Country Club
Greg Norman has incorporated the best elements of Melbourne’s sandbelt courses into a dramatic, natural golf setting, just 45 minutes from the CBD. It takes advantage of the undulating landscape and natural wetlands and bunkering is a key feature of the design, with Norman taking inspiration from Alister MacKenzie’s work at Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath.
Moonah Links (Legends Course)
The Legends Course follows valleys through a variety of landscapes ranging from ancient Moonah woodlands to open links land. The fairways are generous and the putting surfaces gentle, but the bunkering style is bold and wild in appearance. Recently voted 4th best resort course in Australia.
The National Golf Club (Old Course)
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, this is generally hilly course combining amazing coastal views, challenging ball carries and slick, undulating putting surfaces. A number of holes provide spectacular views, especially the 7th, a par-3 played over a cavernous ravine to a green with a coastal backdrop. Ranked the 12th best course in the country.
The Sands Torquay
Bunkering is a feature of this Stuart Appleby design, with sand blending seamlessly into the seaside backdrop. Some holes on the back nine border the foreshore reserve and crashing surf of Bass Strait. The 14th hole, a par-4, laid out alongside sand dunes, has dramatic views along the coastline to Barwon Heads.
