Obama Laughs off Michael Jordan’s Assessment of his Game
During an interview that took place a couple of weeks ago on the American golf lifestyle network, Back 9, former NBA star and current owner of the Charlotte Hornets (previously known as the Charlotte Bobcats), Michael Jordan, was asked who would be in his dream foursome. His first pick was Arnold Palmer but after starting so well by choosing the four times Masters winner and undoubtedly one of the greatest golfers the world has ever seen, the selection process started to go downhill fast.
Michael Jordan then thought for a moment and said, “I’ve never played with Obama but I would”, before changing his mind saying, “But no, that’s OK I take him out, he’s a hack. Man I’d be all day playing with him.” The interviewer, Ahmad Rashad, who NFL fans will remember from his days playing as a wide receiver for the Cardinals, the Bills and the Vikings, asked Jordan if he was sure that he really wanted to say that to the president of the United States, to which Michael replied, “I never said he wasn’t a great politician, I’m just saying he’s a sh**y golfer.”
Michael Jordan has been a keen golfer for many years and is something of a fixture at the Ryder Cup, as well as the Presidents Cup. His unquestionable enthusiasm for the game and status as one of the NBA’s all-time greats might lead you to think that he could get away with such banter but Mr Obama was having none of it and in a Wisconsin radio interview several days after Michael Jordan’s comments were aired on Back 9, he took the opportunity to have his say on the matter. After gracefully conceding that Jordan was undoubtedly a better golfer, he said, “Of course if I was playing twice a day for the last 15 years, then that might not be the case.” He finished by suggesting that Jordan “might want to spend more time thinking about the Bobcats — or the Hornets," who have experienced some truly awful seasons since Michael Jordan bought a majority stake in the team in March 2010.
